What are the Chakra?

Where are they?

How can we relate the subtle energy centers with a contemporary understanding?

Are they relevant to our Westernized concept of Yoga?

Why do we feel different when we align ourselves with this practice?

I am a Yoga teacher that puts function above style and takes a pragmatic approach to teaching Yoga. However, some of the more esoteric practices and concepts fascinate me and I know I feel different when I participate in the more subtle aspects of Yoga such as the Chakra, Mantras, and Mudras.  I haven’t taught this Workshop for some time but have a renewed interest in going into them again. We’ve been doing a lot of study of the Spine and it’s organic form, it’s energy, nervous system, etc. I feel my central energy system more directly when I am chanting AUM. I wonder if I can pass on some of that understanding to you.

Let’s relate the Chakra system to our own endocrine system, some of our internal organs, muscles, nerve plexuses by visualizing them, chanting their Bija Mantras and practicing some of the more ancient and classical Yoga techniques and Pranayamas, including Bastrika and Bandha.
